Find Out Why The
Panasonic TH-58PZ700U Wins Our Award
For The
Best Plasma TV in the
over $2500 Category
written March 2008
So you’re ready to get serious about your home theater,
your source for shows, movies, games, and all kinds of
entertainment for years to come? Yes, this is
definitely a big decision, so where do you begin when
you're searching for that awesome large screen plasma
display? There’s no shortage of options on the market
today.
Might we offer a
suggestion or two? We’ve made the review of high
performance television sets our temporary part time job
lately, so we’re ready to pull back the curtains and show
you what you can expect from one of the best performing
plasma televisions on the market - The Panasonic
TH-58PZ700U. Let’s go take a closer look and kick
some tires so to speak.
What
Impressed Us
The Panasonic
TH-58PZ700U has an understated look to it that can best
be described as refreshing. No attempts to be different
just for the sake of being different. It seems Panasonic
spent as many of their research dollars on performance as
possible.
58 inch plasma screen
Full
1080p display
Great
out of the box performance
100,000 hours estimated life
Brilliant colors and display
First things
first. If you’re going to invest more for amazing
performance, then chances are you will want to hold onto
your prized set for some time to come. Panasonic is well
known for its reliability in the plasma arena. An
estimated life of 100,000 hours is considerably longer
than your average set. (40+ years for the average
family)
Pulling the big
Panasonic out of the box was a pleasure. Before you start
thinking we’re nuts for enjoying manual labor, let me
explain. Most sets seem to require countless
configurations and fiddling with the settings to find an
image that meets with our approval.
The Panasonic
TH-58PZ700U however seemed to have an excellent
configuration right out of the box. Plug and play easy,
that’s what we like! The 1080p resolution gives
us a crisp image, and of course, as you’ve come to
expect from Panasonic, the blacks deliver a visual punch
that is hard to forget.
To make things
even more interesting, Panasonic has included some fun
features such as the Gallery Player which allows you to
download images to an SD card that can be plugged
directly into the set. These pictures will display at
preset intervals selected by you. Particularly useful?
Possibly. Fun to showoff? You bet!
What We
Didn't Like
It’s a lot of fun
to stare at a 58 inch screen with crisp visuals. You
don’t truly appreciate how large this screen is until you
view it side by side with the more standard 46 – 50 inch
sets. However, we did jot down a few of the cons for you
to view.
Mildly
reflective screen– While
the Panasonic does include the anti-glare feature seen on
some of the other units, this huge screen does reflect a bit
when placed in rooms with direct sunlight.
No
PIP– We found the
absence of picture in picture a bit odd in this price range.
Slightly
short on inputs– Most
television sets within this price range offer 3 HDMI inputs,
but the Panasonic offers 2. It seems to be a bit light on
inputs when compared with some of the
competition.

Reviews from the Web
As of March

If you're in the market for a big screen flat panel TV, then
as you will see from the comments and ratings below that the
PanasonicTH-58pz700u is an excellent choice:
We sure did enjoy reviewing
this large 58" plasma powerhouse. An 8.7/10 is our final
score for the Panasonic TH-58PZ700U. We would have loved to
have given it an even higher score, but we did knick a bit off
the score for a couple of minor things that we wish they would
have improved. However, despite this small oversight, we
were thoroughly impressed with this plasma TV and feel it would
fill the void quite nicely for those searching for a high
performance TV and great looking screen.
Where to
buy:
As you can see,It
appears that this Panasonic does attract its own fair
share of praise. If you’re in the market for a high end
television, then this set is definitely worth your
consideration. Just don’t be surprised when all your
friends are knocking on your door when Super Bowl rolls
around!
